At an exclusive reception on Friday June 24, The Eric + Jessie Decker Foundation announced a matching grant to support the construction of a new training facility for Denver-based Freedom Service Dogs.

Freedom Service Dogs is a nonprofit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by transforming shelter dogs into service dogs, and custom training them for individual client needs.

Donations made to the Eric + Jessie Decker Foundation up to $250,000 now through December 31, 2016 will be matched dollar-for-dollar. “This matching grant is our way of encouraging others to sustain Freedom Service Dogs’ momentum and help them reach the goal of building out their new facility,” said Eric Decker. “It will support both the construction of the new building and the gradual increase of rescuing, training, and placing dogs with deserving clients.”

The new Freedom Service Dogs facility sits on 1.46 acres with an adjoining 1.1 acre lot that is ideal for outdoor kennels and play yards. This expansion will double the number of clients that Freedom Service Dogs serves annually, decrease the wait-time for their clients, reduce kennel stress, and improve the success rate of graduating dogs.

“The Eric + Jessie Decker Foundation has made it possible for us to continue providing life-changing service dogs to veterans at no cost,” stated Michele Ostrander, Freedom Service Dogs President & CEO. We are beyond grateful, not only for their support over the years, but also for their investment in the future of Freedom Service Dogs.”

To date, The Eric + Jessie Decker Foundation has funded eight service dogs for veterans with disabilities through Deckers Dogs, an initiative conceived when Decker was a Denver Broncos’ wide receiver. Six of the service dogs have already been matched with veterans, and two are currently in-training.

“This is a unique opportunity to have your donation doubled and it will save two lives, the life of a shelter dog and the life of a human,” added Jessie Decker. “We owe so much to these American heroes – join us in getting them the support they need.”
